Been doing some other little site touch ups for my personal enjoyment.
The one thing I really didn't care for with this site is how "clean" I made it. Just flat colors everywhere compared to folks I've seen do things with Neocities that are really having fun making it a space that feels like it belongs to someone. So I made the header translucent and replaced a shade of blue with a random background I enjoy from various games. It's been fun scrolling through vgmaps and seeing what invoked a response.
At first I was gonna have it change on every page load, but but that gets a little too chaotic if you're actually using the site at all. So instead I have it just do (day of year) % len(backgrounds)
so it'll cycle nightly. I've got seven now but may add more.
If you add ?bg=#
to the URL you can see em all now. I added a tiny JS powered button on the front page that will hide the main content block to focus on the background as well. I think they look nice! Thank u Cave Story, Streets of Rage 2, A Boy And His Blob, and Kirby's Dream Course (the first one I thought of).
I also added some attempt at intro text to the front page as well. Anybody actually following this blog will not learn anything new I think.
